Quietly left our Roseway woodsy retreat shortly after dawn and made our way to the Scotia Lunch, the recommended local greasy spoon.
It was the most basic of basic greasy spoons. Four items on the menu and the most complicated was a cheese omelet (two slices of orangish cheese layered between two griddle whipped eggs.) Jack Nickelson would have been extremely upset!
Four lighthouses today. A slow mosey from Shelburne via Yarmouth to Digby. The first section from Shelburne to Yarmouth while green and quiet was pretty boring. Just lots of short trees and salty wetlands. No real photo opportunities until we reached the Cape Forchu lighthouse outside Yarmouth. Beautiful spot located on a rocky promontory with a bonus trail winding amongst the rocks.
We lunched at Rudders in Yarmouth. Right on the water as are most dinning spots we've found in Nova Scotia. Greek salad and fish chowder; both excellent. Our waiter, a local filled us in on mackerel fishing and the local lighthouses. We won't mention his double life.
Further up the coast and eastward toward Digby we visited three more lighthouses; each a bit less enjoyable than the first. It's almost as if lighthouse funding dried up as installations approached Digby. I.e. the latter houses were purely want-to-bes.
Charles' wildly uncontrollable fingers somehow managed to delete all the photos he took today on one if his three cameras immediately after his last shot of he day! He exhibited quite a display after realizing his error. He's convinced that an award winning million dollar shot was among the lost. (PostScript - files recovered - nice surprise)
Checked into another cottage place after we reached Digby. Not nearly as lovely as last night but again with two separate rooms.
This day we headed for an early Digby dinner. Gordon scallops fresh from the boat- a Digby tradition; Charles a steak he immediately decided was a mistake- tough and tasteless. Not Charles' day.
We look forward to breakfast at the local Irving Gas Station that has a kitchen in back; highly recommended by our cottage keeper. We can't wait !
(PostScript: breakfast was the best we've had in Canada!)
